It was another successful night for Octagon MMA this last Friday evening, October 14th, at Legacy Fighting Championship 61.
Rob Butler made his pro debut and TKO’d his opponent in just 25 seconds in the 1st round.
Rashad Coulter followed that up by knocking out his opponent in 1:11 of the 1st round.
That led to the main event and Damon Jackson emerging victorious with a hard fought unanimous decision victory. Jackson kept the fight mostly on the feet and showed a new level of striking that had previously been absent from his predominantly wrestling based style.
The night was not without controversy however. Steven Peterson was supposed to defend his title in the main event of the evening. His opponent, Mark Delarosa, did not show up to the venue the night of the fights. After being contacted by multiple Legacy personnel Delarosa would complain about procedures he found “shady” at the weigh-ins the day before.
Weigh-ins were observed by the Texas Athletic Commission and the title fight was approved by them and Legacy officials.
Congratulations to Q Hassan Haqq for earning his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt this past Saturday, August 6th.
Q has been training for 14 years and has been with Octagon MMA since we opened our doors in 2008.
In addition to Q, Brent Wiser, Marcus Watters and Walter Amarteifio earned their first degrees on their Black Belts.
We will be holding a separate promotions ceremony for all of the blue, purple and brown belts that have been earned later this month.
It was a big night for Octagon MMA as the team went 3-1 at Legacy Fighting Championship 56 this past Friday night on AXS TV.
Miles Johns (3-0) started the main card out and TKO’d Eliazar Rodriguez at 0.38 seconds into the 2nd Round.
Jason Sampson improved to 14-1 after a 3 round domination of Ryan Hollis, winning the fight 30-26 due to a few flagrant fouls from Hollis, from all three judges.
Finally, the night was capped off with Steven Peterson (14-4) capturing the Legacy Fighting Championship Bantamweight Title when he locked on a Rear Naked Choke to Manny Vazquez in the 4th Round until Vazquez passed out.
Congratulations to Octagon MMA fighter and new XKO Light Heavyweight Champion, Rashad Coulter.
Rashad was able to capture the XKO title this past Saturday at XKO 30 by defeating Allen Nelson via TKO in the very first round.
This marks three straight fights Rashad has ended in the first round via TKO. He now improves to 6-1 in his MMA career.
