Octavio “Ratinho” Couto is a 5th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and one of the most revered of all BJJ coaches in the world. He won the Brazilian Nationals in 1994 and continued competing over the years, winning the World no-gi Championships Master Division thirteen years later.
Originally competing with Alliance, he was one of seven black belts to form Team Brasa in 2002.
Professor Couto has coached all over the world. Most recently he coached Fabrico Werdum to 2009 ADCC championship and silver at the 2011 ADCC . Professor Couto Also coached and cornered Werdum in his historic victory over Fedor by triangle. Besides Renato “Babalu” Sobral, he has coached many other Strikeforce and UFC fighters.
College educated and speaking four languages, Octavio developed principles of job duties, education and self defense for the Italian Carabinieri (police) using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He co-founded and developed the curriculum and operations at AKKE BJJ, the largest academy of Rio de Janiero.
